Fun, Friendship, and a Podium Finish Away from Home
On October 11-12th, the Canterbury Floorball Quake Junior team travelled to compete in the Junior Wellington Floorball Open. What a huge opportunity this was for the team.
Wellington is a notoriously tough place to play, but the team did the club proud. The boys played amazingly all weekend and pushed themselves to the limit to secure some outstanding results.
Day one saw us play five games, for three strong wins and two close losses. Lots of tired bodies after that big day, but spirits were high and we all had a lovely dinner out together that night.
Day two and the boys really wanted to do well. The pool was very close, all the teams were very evenly matched, and any team could have made the finals. We drew the first game of the day. Semi finals next. This resulted in a very unlucky loss, 2-3 but the boys pushed the loss aside and prepared for the 3rd/4th playoff game.
Their final game was outstanding and full of heart. They proudly won 8-3, taking third place overall in the Year 7/8 division of the tournament. A special mention must go to Cameron and Ash, who were named in the All Star tournament team. A great achievement for them and the club.
Thank you to all the boys for being such a great group to share the experience with. And a big thank you to all the parents who made the trip, what wonderful support you were all weekend.
A big thank you to the Wellington Storm club for the hard mahi that goes into hosting such a great event. We look forward to see you again next year!
